Submitted by Oracle of Wuffing Revised 9/13/05 for minor corrections.
A certain event occurred during my last play of Advance Wars Dual Strike that sort of got me thinking about something. One of the points people tend to make about Eagle is that, although his Sea units aren't offensively that powerful, he can hold his own on maps that use said units because of Lightning Strike. Perhaps now that the DS game is out, we can also add Lightning Drive to the mix. The reasoning behind this is that these powers offer all non-infantry units an extra turn to attack. This may produce effects from "doubling" Land unit offense to "adding" five to a single-shot battleship's range. Wow, that's actually pretty beneficial. Who needs 5 HP or 2 range when my SCOP crushes everything? Given all this, though... Colin could be quite threatening on predeployed maps. What the hell!? He has 90% offense while CO's like Eagle get 90 to 120% offense! YOU'RE INSANE AND STUPID! You know, Colin's more than Gold Rush in a bag. Yeah, but his Super CO Power, Double Gold Rush, is broken and usually banned.
That's not what I meant. I mean his REAL Super CO Power. You know, the one that nobody ever really bothers to use. Power of Something-or-Other. Let's think about this: It's pretty widely accepted and uncontested that Eagle and Jess can do -some- pretty good work on predeployed maps, regardless of their units (heh, heh). When you use them outside of their specialty, it's not the day-to-day that counts, it's the Powers. You pick Eagle and Jess, now you're playing with powers. Now, Power of Whatchamacallit is a mere six star Super Power, and on predeployed maps, it will turn your turn into a turn of turn godness. Anything Colin so much as touches will explode in a Power of What's-his-Bucket goodness. I don't know if I'm saying that Colin may do well in predeployed maps, but I think I am saying that he may be able to hold his own, occassionally being better, against specialist CO's outside of their element. Unlike most other conditions, Power of Whatever becomes a tide-turning SCOP in predeployed maps. WTF!? THAT'S KANBEI'S AREA AND KANBEI > J00!
Shut up. Predeployed's Hachi's territory, and you know it (yes, I'm assuming forces are off). But think about Sasha's attributes. No, not those, pervert. She gets 100 more funds from each city, which is often criticized as not being noticeable enough for a deployment advantage. Her CO Power -does- help in delpoyment maps by hindering the CO, but as Xenesis once told me, "That's only if you have $60,000 for it!". Granted, this was early in Advance Wars Dual Strike's history, I think even before the game was released in Japan (tough times, my boy, tough times). So, I guess what I'm saying is that Sasha's an awesome, perhaps top tier, CO to use on predeployed maps against people that are too elitist to use Kanbei, Haichi, and Hawke on them. Sure, income = used for deploying troops, but income serves another purpose to Colin and Sasha, Sasha moreso. |
